Tallis Scholars to perform rare Lichfield concert

Booking opens on Monday 8 September for a special Christmas concert in Lichfield Cathedral on Friday 5 December by the internationally-renowned Tallis Scholars.

Presented by The Lichfield Festival and Lichfield Cathedral, the ten-strong choir will perform a programme called Journey through Advent to Christmas, comprising traditional Christmas songs as well as works by Orlando Gibbons, William Byrd and the composer from whom they take their name, Thomas Tallis. The concert will also include the world premiere of a new Christmas carol, to be decided by a competition in the run-up to the concert. Under-18s across Staffordshire will be invited to compose a new piece using a familiar Christmas text.

Full programme: Trad: Angelus ad Virginem; Trad: There is no rose of such virtue; Weelkes: Hosanna to the Son of David; Gibbons: Hosanna to the Son of David; Cornysh: Ave Maria; Tallis: Salve intemerata; - New composition; Byrd: Lullaby my sweet little baby; Tallis: Missa Puer natus est nobis.

Tickets £25, £20, £15, £10, £7.50 (under 18s half-price) available from the Lichfield Festival Office, Monday - Friday, 10am - 4pm.
