Lichfield is renowned the world over for its connections to Samuel Johnson and the leading figures of the Enlightenment era but dig a little deeper and you uncover a whole host of other literary connections that are hardly mentioned.

Did you know that Jane Austen stayed with relatives just a couple of miles away? That Tolkien spent some time here during the First World War? That american novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne was counted amongst the tourists of the 1850s or that poet Philip Larkin hated the City with a passion?

This 90 minute walking tour takes in locations across the City linked to this hidden literary past. The walk will start from Speakers Corner on Dam Street.
