Ferio Saxophone Quartet has had a colourful upbringing in Britain and America with numerous influences from many genres of music and art. They come to Lichfield for the first time with a programme that journeys through influences from both countries; reflecting on influential composers, important repertoire and original works. From the quiet, elegant simplicity of William Byrd, to the comforting warmth of Edward Elgar’s Serenade for Strings contrasted with Philip Glass’ Concerto for Saxophone Quartet and Will Gregory’s Toe Tapping Hoedown and a newly commissioned piece inspired by the Wordsworth poems, this is an afternoon that is set to be one of the talking points of the whole Festival.
